Q: Why did you sign up for our nutrition program?
When I was younger never really had to worry about my weight. I was in the Navy so that required me to be pretty active and for the most part I ate whatever I wanted and never really gained weight. After I got out I never really was able to commit to a good workout routine. I would just work out for a month or two and then quit while the same time continuing to eat whatever I wanted. Year after year I put weight on. While the pounds added on I felt like I lost more more myself.
A common excuse I made was that I was too busy taking care of everyone else to take care of myself. The heavier I got feelings of insecurity flooded in. It wasn’t so much about my outward appearance it was more internal for me. I felt like I was on a downward road because the heavier I got the less energy I had and less energy I had the less activities I would do. Embarrassingly I, at times, avoided events with my kids that involved physical activity. I was in a cycle that I didn’t think I could get out of. For my 39th birthday I got myself the best birthday present ever. I took a leap of faith responding to a Facebook ad for CrossFit Reanimated. I had known a few people that Crossfit worked for them so I did some research and went for it. I entered the doors of CrossFit Reanimated with the attitude that whatever they tell me to do, I’ll do it. I’ve done things ‘my way’ with no success so why not take advice from the experts. Sara recommended that along with classes I could really benefit from nutrition counseling. I knew that my health was on the line and I absolutely had to make a change so I went for it. I thought I knew what healthy eating was, but I truly had no idea. Michelle walked me through each step. She looked at my food log and recommended changes here and there and most important everyone at CrossFit Reanimate provided me with the accountability that I so needed.
Q: What have your results been?
My results are so much more than pounds and inches. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super stoked about losing 40 pounds so far, but it’s truly been the lifestyle change that has been the best. I’m slowly but surely getting my confidence back. I’m discovering the athlete that lies within me. I’m challenged both mentally and physically. I have more energy than I ever thought possible. I was never diagnosed, but I feel I was having some bouts with depression that are now gone. Most important I want to both live a long time for my kids and be a good example of being the best version of myself I can be. My husband just commented today that “now that you’ve been doing CrossFit for a few months it’s not just something you feel you have to do it’s now something that you look forward to doing, isn’t it?” I couldn’t agree with him more. If I can get to a place where I look forward to my classes and feel comfortable with my new eating habits so can you.
What would you tell someone who was considering signing up with CrossFit Reanimated?
If I were to give anyone advice it would be...you’re worth it. People tell me all the time...ahh CrossFit is too expensive, or too time consuming or whatever and my response is that, for me, I’m worth it. My health is worth it and so is yours.
