Tonya started working out with us in April of 2015! She's been one of the most consistent people we've had and her progress shows in everything she does. We can count on seeing her smiling fast at least 2-3 times a week at 6:30pm class and most Saturday morning!
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I got tired of going to the gym. The gym can be boring and I was doing the same workouts. There were some days that I didn't feel like going. I needed to be challenged and do something that was motivating.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression was and is still the same now. Everyone is very welcoming and encouraging no matter your fitness level. It is a very positive environment from the coaches down to the people you work out with. No matter your mood before you get there, you will always be glad you showed up or made yourself go.
What was your first “bright spot”?
One of my first bright spots was dead-lifting 190lbs with good form. I have a lower back issue that flares up from time to time. It can flare up from something as simple as sitting down too long or bending down too quickly. So, having correct form while dead-lifting is imperative. A lot of the times, I don't know if I strained my back till the next morning. I woke up the next morning feeling fine after lifting 190. No pain, so I knew I did it right.
What are you working on now?
Making it to workout 3 to 4 times a week at CrossFit. Not letting work keep me from coming. And health wise, just making better choices and making time to prep my food for the week.
What’s your favorite CrossFit Reanimated memory?
I just did my first CrossFit event, 31 Heroes. It was nerve racking being out of your comfort zone. A new unfamiliar environment. I was glad I got through it and participated. Everyone was really positive and encouraging. I even got a few cool pictures that I got to share with my family.
