How long have you been CrossFitting? 10 Weeks (As of June 2015)

What keeps you coming back? The People – The coaches are “Top Shelf” and the other box members are right there with them when it comes to camaraderie – I could not ask for better teammates in any sport.

We all find CrossFit in a different way. Where did your story start? Through a raffle drawing for the United Way Campaign last year I won 10 free Pilates Tower classes at CrossFit Reanimated

Do you remember your First WOD? Three rounds for time of Rowing, wallballs, situps, and burpees - I don’t remember my time

What is your athletic background? As a Kid I played baseball (catcher) and swam. I did a lot of running just because it was fun. In sixth grade I did my first obstacle course an fell in love with it. Through the Navy and College I got into golf and Martial arts – Karate first and then Aikido and Tai Chi. I played Coed Slow pitch softball and Sand volleyball with my company team in Colorado Springs. Then just running when I moved to Virginia in Sept 2009. I slowly settled into watching sports and walking my dog then when she passed away I just settled into the recliner. Then I won the raffle and here I am.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness? Through CrossFit  and the workouts I am getting into shape and combating a difficult environment at work with a group of positive individuals. We did the Whole Life Challenge and that got me back on track with proper diet, exercising, stretching and lifestyle. Just being around motivated people with positive attitudes has helped me mentally and physically.

What is the One Thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? So far it’s not so much of what I never thought I could do as much as what I had wanted to do many years ago and had let go of  because I had gotten too old to do them. Starting CrossFit half way through my 63rd year of life was the farthest thing from my mind when I won the Pilate Classes. Then at the end of my first Whole Life Challenge I was a little disappointed that I hadnt lost weight doing just Pilates for the exercise/stretching portion of the challenge. Sara said, If you wanted to lose weight you should have done CrossFit, its easier than Pilates anyway! Thanks for giving me my dreams back Sara. They say a great coach is someone who recognizes things in you and finds a way to lead you through, not around,  the obstacles you put in the way.  Then you can realize your potential that they saw from the beginning. We have some really great coaches at CrossFit Reanimated.

What motivates/inspires you? I want to do all of the things I see the others doing – Chest to Bar Pullups, Toes to bar, Ring dips, muscle ups everything with the barbells and other apparatuses around the box. My motivation comes from the coaches keeping me doing things in a way that makes me feel like I will be able to do all of those things if if put my path in their hands. The inspiration comes for all of the other teammates and their stories on how they got to where they are and helping me to stay challenged.

Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit? Participate in a CrossFit Competition by December 31, 2015

What goals have you achieved in CrossFit? I have lost over 17 ½ inches total inches since I started doing CrossFit, 6 5/8” from my waist alone.

Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? Golfing, biking, snow and water skiing, hiking, and swimming.

Tell me about your diet: Mainly high protein low sugar in starch. I use a Nuti-Bullet cookbook and most of the recipes are very close to Vegan but I eat a variety of meats along with it.
